Merging Works and Areas (Administrators)

Audience: Administrators only. Merging is available from the Curriculum section.

Overview

Merging is useful when duplicates have built up over time, such as two copies of the same work or two versions of the same area. The merge keeps the useful history under the item you choose to keep.

Note: Merging is for administrators and is available from the Curriculum section.

Merging two works from the Curriculum page

  1. Go to Administration, then Curriculum, and select the area.
  2. On the work you want to remove, click the menu icon and choose Merge.
  3. In Merge Work, use Keep this work to choose the work that should remain. The work whose menu you opened is the one that will be removed.
  4. Open What happens when I merge? and review the details.
  5. Click Merge Works.

Merging two works from Curriculum Clean Up

  1. In Curriculum Clean Up, choose the Duplicate names filter, or another works filter.
  2. Select exactly two works. A Merge button appears at the top.
  3. Click Merge. The window shows both works, including their areas and observation counts. The work with more observations is selected by default as the one to keep.
  4. Choose the work you want to keep and review the summary of what will happen.
  5. Click Merge Works.

What happens when works are merged

  • All observations and progress from both works are combined under the work you keep.
  • If a student has progress on both works, their records are combined and the displayed status follows the most recent entry.
  • The kept work is added to every area, classroom, and lesson plan where either work appeared.
  • The kept work keeps its name and photo. If it has no photo, the other work's photo is used.
  • The other work is permanently deleted. It does not go to the 30-day restore area.
  • The merge happens in the background. You will see Merging started, and the works show Merging until the process finishes. When complete, you will see Works merged successfully.

Merging two areas

  1. Go to Administration, then Curriculum, open the area-name dropdown, and choose Merge [area name].
  2. Choose the target area; this is the area that will remain.
  3. When both areas contain works with the same name, choose either Merge works together (recommended) or Keep both. With Keep both, the duplicate gets "duplicate" added to its name.
  4. Review What happens when I merge? and click Merge Areas.

All works, classroom assignments, and lesson plans from both areas move into the kept area. The other area is permanently deleted after everything has been moved safely.

Good to know: Merging is permanent for the item that is removed. Review the confirmation details carefully before proceeding.
