Navigating Observations
Audience: Administrators and Guides.
The Observations tool follows a student's journey through the Montessori system, letting you record interactions, significant developments and special moments through notes and photos. For example, when a shy student offers to help another child with their work, you can record the event, something tracking work progress alone would miss.
- Select Observations from the main menu. Change classrooms using the Classroom selector if needed.
- Students are listed on the left; click a name to select them. Their History feed appears, newest first.
- Type in Write an observation. To add a photo, click the camera button and choose a file. You can add a photo with or without a note.
- Select Add Observation. The new observation appears at the top of the feed.
The History feed
The feed shows three kinds of entry: Workspace (progress recorded from the Workspace), Attendance, and Ad-Hoc (observations written here). More entries load automatically as you scroll. Use the search icon to search notes and work names, and use Filter to narrow the feed by date range, entry type, or Only Show Items With Photos. Select Apply Filters to apply your choices or Reset Filters to show everything again.
Icons on each entry let you edit the note (pencil), change the date (calendar), share by email (envelope) or delete (trash). The Share control sends an observation to a student's contacts by email; see Does Montessori Workspace Have a Parent Portal.
Good to know: A new observation is dated today. To record something from an earlier day, add it, then use the calendar icon on the entry to change the date.
